LBC Is Not Anti-Cardio

Why to you guys always seem to be so against cardio?

To be clear, we are not “against” cardio at all. Rather we reserve it for specific situations to achieve a specific aesthetic goal.

For example, if you start your fat-loss phase by adding in a bunch of cardio, it doesn’t leave you a lot of options if/when you hit a fat-loss plateau. If fat loss halts, we’re able to add cardio to get things moving again because we’ve held off on adding it until it becomes necessary.

Also, another issue with doing a lot of cardio is that your body adapts to become more efficient when performing it. Of course, being more efficient sounds like it would be a good thing. When you have a car, you want it to be more efficient because it burns less fuel. But when you think in terms of body fat, you don’t want your body to become more efficient and burn less fat. You want it to burn MORE. So holding off on cardio until it is necessary helps to ensure that it is more effective for burning fat when you do have to add it.

But what about cardiovascular health?

This statement always assumes that there are no cardiovascular benefits from weight training (there are) and that weight training cannot be structured in such a way as to provide a cardiovascular effect (it can).

In short, we do care about cardiovascular health and weight training can very much be structured in a way to maintain a healthy heart. But we do tend to withhold formal cardio for use in specific situations for the reasons mentioned above.

Hope that clears things up.
