The Hunger Games: Is it emotional or real?

Dieting is one phase where it quite normal both biologically and physiology to experience hunger. Choose to eat less calories and your body is going to let you know. It’s normal and we should expect it. Hunger while dieting is common. But there are times as well that often we think we are hungry or were we. This would be emotionally driven.

For a scientific explanation about hunger and hormones check our blog here: : //www.leanbodiesconsulting.com/why-hunger-increases-w…/.

Today, while I was out running around, it hit me, at 4:30 pm in the grocery. I’m hungry! The last and only meal I had today until 5:30 pm was at 10 am breakfast. I had a lots going on in the am, then traveled to a dr appt that went 2.5 hrs long. Travel towards home, stopped at the market and pharmacy and it wasn’t until my stomach growled at me at the pharmacy that I realized I hadn’t eaten. I was hungry! I chose not to eat in the market (or the bar in my purse) finished grocery shopping, picked up my prescriptions and headed home. Once I unpacked my car, I grabbed some yogurt and potato and ate.

There are two types of hunger PHYSICAL hunger and EMOTIONAL hunger.

I’m always surprised when I’m so busy, that I don’t notice the hunger. It pretty much tells me, that likely there were many times what I thought was hunger actually wasn’t physical hunger. Can you tell the difference?

Real, Physical hunger is often said to:
*Come on gradually and can be postponed. It has physical cues
*Anything will satisfy the feeling
*You can stop when full
*Doesn’t cause feelings of remorse or guilt.

Where as Emotional Hunger is often said to:
*Feel urgent and the feeling comes on fast with no physical cues
*It’s typically a craving for a specific thing like ice cream or your favorite carbs of choice.
* Typically end up over indulging more so than normal and that leads to..
* Causing feelings of guilt and remorse afterwards.

Next time you have a hankering for something, give it some thought.
