As the conference approaches and I am preparing for my hormones sessions I am reminded just how many people suffer from hypothyroidism. I see clients struggle to maintain their success or even achieve results at all. When asked about thyroid testing, most either got shrugged off by their doctors or given the very basic TSH test and told they were fine. TSH is not a good measure of thyroid function and doesn’t measure how much of the active hormone is avail be for use in the cells. They need FULL thyroid testing. If you are struggling with your journey and have other symptoms that are along for the ride, it is worth getting your labs done.

A full thyroid panel looks like the following.

・TSH
・Free T4
・Free T3
・Reverse T3
・TPO Antibodies
・TgAb Antibodies

That is the minimum number of tests to make sure there isn’t a thyroid problems and most doctors are testing TSH only. Always ask for the specific tests you want run. Name them off and make sure they are on your lab slip. When labs come back, don’t accept a phone call with “all is fine”. Get a copy of your labs and do your research. It is up to you to advocate for yourself because if you feel something is wrong, it probably is.

Just some food for thought tonight.
