Upright Rows with Dumbbells

September 20th, 2016 by

Some dumbbell upright rows from my high rep pull session on Sunday. Upright rows primarily target the delts, traps, and rhomboids.

Many people find the barbell version uncomfortable on the shoulder joints. I often had impingement issues myself which caused me to avoid this movement for a very long time.

Try using dumbbells as an alternative, which allow for more flexibility with the range of motion. Remember to retract your scapula and pull upwards leading with your elbows. I rarely pull up past chest level, stopping once I feel a full contraction. Lower the dumbbells along the same path as they were raised.

Give these a try and you too may discover a new found love for the upright rows.
