Body Fat
Well I travelled an hour away to get my body fat scanned via Dexa. This is good because I have always wondered about my bone density. I was concerned because I typically stop getting my monthly for a few months before contest time and everything you hear about the triad scares the bejeesus out of me. So anyway.. I have great bone density! I feel good knowing that dipping down into the lower body fat percentages for a few months out of the year has not taken a toll on my skeleton.
So here are the results of my scan:
My total body fat is 13.3 percent. It breaks down like this:
Left arm 6.7%
Left leg 20.6%
Left Trunk 9.5%
and about the same for the right side.
My total Android percent of body fat tissue is 6.2% whereas my total amount of Gynoid fat is 25.5%. Here is more about that..
So basically I have too much junk in my trunk.. and another interesting thing I found out is a breakdown of lean mass from left to right. This answered my question about whether my one leg was more muscular or just fatter... It shows me what imbalances I have to work on evening out.. so cool.
Here is where I am a little skeptical however.. if indeed my whole percentage of body fat is 13.3% and I weigh 133.. that means that I have 115-116 pounds of lean mass and 17-18 pounds of fat.
Basically.. if this is true, I will be a TANK on stage. That is not what I want. It's hard for me to believe I have gained that much muscle over the past two years. If I had to guess I would say it is all back.
In fact if I lose the fat off my legs.. I will have virtually no muscle left. The test actually took a picture of my body and printed it out so I can see the V taper.. or lack there of. I will definitely need to beef up my thighs in order to keep in proportion with my calves and upper body.
Recomposition anyone?
The good news is: I am extremely fit for my age. I am healthy, happy, energetic, athletic, and can do anything I put my mind to. Overall... life is good.
I have another Dexa scan planned for July and also right before comp. Even if the scan is not accurate (which I heard it was) I will be able to know that I am going in the right direction. When I am precontest.. I can look in one mirror and look too small and fear that I am losing all of my muscle and another mirror and see nothing but dimples on my rear...
So it's good to know. It's good to have a hard copy.
Trust me, after having been with my husband for 15 years, he has NEVER once told me that I have a fat ass when asked... and he never will.
That's why I need fact instead of opinion.
All of these numbers and results and scans don't mean a thing to a judge sitting on my panel... all that matters to them is how I present.
The numbers are just one way that I can feel more confident that I am headed in the right direction. During contest prep.. that is everything.
