So the 2010 IFBB Pro contest season is about to get started and I thought it'd be a nice addition to the blog to have IFBB Fitness Pro Sandi Stuart do a weekly guest blog as she diets down for the 2010 New York and Orlando Pro Fitness. A Pro's Perspective: IFBB Pro Melody Clere Talks Offseason Training!

The following is a guest entry from IFBB Figure Pro Melody Clere on the need for competitors to have an offseason. Melody herself has just recently come off a great offseason dedicated towards putting on a little more muscle in some key areas.

I'm in complete agreement with her position here obviously as I think one of the biggest problems with those trying to develop 'The Physque', is that they're always focused on fat loss, fat loss, fat loss. The need to stay lean year round, always competing, doing numerous shows per year. When do you make any gains? Oh wait, you don't. That's why you never look much different. Competing successfully is not just a fat-loss contest.

Corsets? Contest Prep? V-Taper? What?

If you've read my blog when I'm in rant mode about the practices of some, or rather, apparently many, contest prep coaches, you already know that it's not just that I'm not impressed; it's also that some of these recommended program practices are just ... out to lunch.

I've ranted and raved about the insane amounts of cardio so common in contest prep circles today more than once ... and there's another one coming, but not today. We've all seen and heard that kind of thing already. No, today, I'm going to talk about something I've never heard before ... until a recent conversation with a client of mine.
