Are you normal, from a hormonal standpoint?

Are you normal?

I don’t know about you, but I’m anything but normal LOL.

Where am I going with this? hang with me a minute.

Yesterday I had to have oral surgery and the staff kept telling me that I’m like everyone else, my anxiety was normal around there during my pre-op appointment and phone conversations. On surgery day, they severely underestimate MY normal when it comes to dentists and procedure. They quickly found out I was NOT normal. I’m wishing they truly understood that from the onset events might have flown differently.

But this isnt really about my visit. Its about lab testing. When it comes to lab testing so many people are told their results are ‘normal’ too. What’s ‘normal’?

So you take a group of people OR labs in this case and group everyone together, you get ‘the norm’. But what if they actually looked at people as individuals instead of lumping them all together. In my example above, what if they took people who weren’t phased by procedures. What if they then took nutz like ME that that lose it? Some where in the middle are others…
Do you treat everyone one the same or everyone as individuals? Same treatment? No, but that was my experience. Not just in this dental office.

When it comes to lab testing and evaluations, particularly when it comes to thyroid, I can tell my own personal stories and client stories all day long, some truly sad. There are ranges but you can just stick a person anywhere in the range and say they are fine. What if their low results now are off from the higher end of range results last year and they don’t feel well. Well, it happens all the time! Happened to me to me too.

We have clients and fans in our community, that get lab testing done and then told their ‘normal’ and they feel anything but. Why do doctors miss the boat/s and lump everyone together and not look at people as individuals. But that is what they do. And while we can’t say ALL drs do this, there are plenty that do.

Sometimes it’s hard enough to get your physician to properly test your thyroid function and more so the difficulty is in properly evaluating them. Labs have ranges and just because someone labs fall within that lab range many doctors feel there is no need to further discuss or look into symptoms and dismiss patient/clients concerns. Personally I have been there early in my thyroid journey – I nearly ended up in a mental institution because i was normal, so it really pains me to hear that some drs don’t take their patients seriously and LISTEN to them, not just look at a range especially when their results come back in end ranges (vs optimal) or clearly flagging BELOW ranges and yet deem a patient ‘normal’

There is a big difference between ‘normal’ and optimal. The full content or this article can be read here on our blog: //www.leanbodiesconsulting.com/what-are-normal-thyroid-ranges/
